For the lover that I lost

I thought I’d say it’s been sadness all through
In the days so far without you
It didn’t feel like sea water in my lungs
Yet, for your voice and touch I long.

Is life after me the same?
Does your mind wander through thoughts of me
Is it purged of me already?
Would you wish to find me again?

Did it mean anything really
Our time together, the connection we shared so easily
Did you love me only for the future
You never cared about what’s before later.

Those conversations fill my dreams
There’s no urge to wake from sleep
I do hope life’s treating you well
I’d write you, but I’m blocked everywhere.

Still wonder what you packed for lunch
I smile at the memory of your touch
A thing isn’t beautiful because it lasts
Some things bring smiles, even from the past.
