When we think about courage, it is easy to catch ourselves dreaming up a knight in armor from mediaeval times, charging into battle on horseback with a mighty sword. Maybe it could also evoke images of lofty ideals about Hollywood inspired heroism.

The truth is that courage is more subtle and consistent than that. I have told a friend at some point that many people do not realize the amount of courage it takes to live.

Courage is when you get up from bed in the morning and step out with a less than a 100% assurance that the day will bring positive events.

Courage is when you take a selfie and upload it on the internet knowing fully well that you could get criticized for your looks or even made fun of.

Courage is when you step out to hang out with friends, knowing that you could be scorned and mocked for your awkwardness; it is dancing in the middle of the floor when deep down you know you are far from the best dancer in the room.

Courage is when you take on that job or career, knowing that there is a huge chance you could never be the best suited person for that job or that it could quite simply be the wrong career for you.

Courage is when you allow your heart to guide you home, even in the face of contrary events, opinions, and statistics.

Courage is when you can dare to let fate decide after barrages of disappointments, failures, and seemingly insurmountable challenges.

Courage is leaving the things, the people, and the environments you have found to be wrong for you, even when you are yet to discover that which would be your place of nurture and growth.

Courage is the mindful and unflinching resolve to keep moving forward.
